Integrating ANU and the City
On 21 December 2004, the Vice Chancellor, Professor Ian Chubb, and the Chief Minister of the Australian Capital Territory (ACT) signed a Deed for the creation of the "ANU City West Integration Precinct". The agreement allows the ANU to develop land bordering the campus in the ANU Exchange over the next 10 years.
The agreement is designed to ensure that development of land at the interface between the City and the University is consistent with the interests of the ANU, the community, business and the ACT Government.
At present the ANU is considering potential developments of the Exchange which cover research and innovation, teaching and outreach, student accommodation, residential accommodation and serviced apartments, arts activities, ancillary commercial activities, facilities for community groups, extension of University services, possible re-location of University activities as well as location of cognate professional and lobby groups. A Master Plan for the Exchange considers the University’s position on recreation and open spaces as well as traffic and parking. Issues and proposals will be raised with the campus community at relevant times.
The University has signed a Heads of Agreement with Baulderstone Hornibrook as its development partner.
